Devices and Vehicle Model Compatibility

Toyota Halo delivers fleet-wide compatibility across nearly every vehicle, Toyota or non-Toyota.

For Toyota models, some models will have a DCM already installed and others will need an TL-OBD device installed.

For non-Toyota models, these will require a GX6 device to be self-installed.

The time in brackets ( ) refers to the month and year the vehicle was produced, e.g. (Sep’22> = September 2022 and onwards).

If you don’t know your production dates for any vehicles, please email toyotahalosupport@toyota.com.au and provide vehicle VIN numbers.

Keep reading for a brief explanation of each device.

DCM Device

Newer vehicles will already have an in-built telematics device, known as a data communications module (DCM). This device comes pre-installed with your Toyota vehicle and can be used for telematics.

  • DCM can be activated remotely for use in Toyota Halo at any time post-RDR. (RDR is when the dealership has marked the vehicle in the system as: delivered to customer).

TL-OBD (OBD) Device

Non-DCM equipped Toyota vehicles will need a telematics device installed by the dealer prior to delivery; this is known as a TL-OBD (or OBD) device. There is a cost to purchase and install the device (refer to https://www.toyota.com.au/fleet/halo-telematics/plans-pricing).

  • TL-OBD is available on most Toyota models from 2019 production onwards.
  • As a Toyota Genuine Accessory the TL-OBD comes with Toyota’s standard warranty for parts and accessories.

GX6 Device

Non-Toyota vehicles will need a GX6 device to be fitted by the customer.

You can purchase the device from this link: Rand McNally – GX6 Device Product Purchase.

The GX6 device is delivered to you and comes with detailed instructions for you to self-install. GX6 is compatible with most passenger cars and SUVs with a OBDII port (these ports are typically present in petrol vehicles from 2006 onwards and diesel vehicles from 2007 onwards). The GX6 is not compatible with Toyota vehicles.

For more information about the GX6 device, refer to the guide here.
